First let’s define what Snapshot is and how it works
Snapshot is a small device that connects to the diagnostic port in your vehicle that measures how, when and how much you drive. Then it transmits that information to Progressive automatically so you don’t have to do anything! With Snapshot, your safe driving could help you get a lower monthly rate.
After 30 days of having Snapshot, you could earn an initial discount of up to 30 percent for the rest of your first policy period based on your driving habits. After 6 months, you’ll be asked to return the device to Progressive, and any discount you achieve will continue for the life of your policy or until Progressive requests updated vehicle use information.

How does the discount work?
The discount is based on the customer’s driving data as collected by Snapshot. Once the customer plugs in the device and begins driving, they can track their driving data online. After 30 days they’ll get an initial discount; at renewal they’ll set their Snapshot Discount percentage, at which time they need to unplug and return the device to Progressive.
Is there a minimum discount?
Customers can earn a discount ranging from 0 to 30 percent. Some customers may not qualify for a discount based on their driving habits.
Is there a fee or potential surcharge with Snapshot?
There is no fee or potential surcharge to use snapshot, you can only save with Snapshot. However, if a customer does not return the Snapshot device, either at renewal or after opting out of the program, Progressive will charge them a $50 fee.
After you’ve enrolled in Snapshot and feel like it is not right for you all you need to do is unplug the device and return the device back to Progressive in the postage-paid box in which it arrived, or in a return envelope we provide upon request. If not returned please note that the $50 fee will be charged.
