Why working with the Florey Insurance Agency will help you save money
Many people are finding they can lower the cost of car insurance- and the time it takes to select the right policy- by working with an independent insurance agent.
Because independent insurance agents represent many different insurance companies, independent agents have the flexibility to review rates and coverage from competing carriers so you can receive the best deal. They can offer affordable protection for your home, business and other assets.
So rather than spending hours gathering quotes from various companies, you can get everything done in one place. The Florey Insurance Agency-located in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania- can help you compare prices of over 25 different companies. They are the independent agency that Scranton and Wilkes Barre prefer.
If you’re thinking of working with an independent agent, here are a few things to consider provided by the Progressive Insurance Company and the Florey Insurance Agency:
- What’s your lifestyle?
Many factors determine auto insurance rates, not just vehicle year, make and model. Companies also look at information about you. If you’ve recently moved, gotten married, had a birthday or experienced a similar life milestone, mention this to your independent agent, you may be eligible to save money on your car insurance.
Although having a new teenage driver usually means the auto insurance bill will go up, there are ways to save. We work with multiple companies and offer over 35 different discounts like the good student discount and if driver courses were taken.
- How old is your car?
You don’t always need the same level of physical damage coverage on older cars as on newer ones. If you drive an older car, independent agents can give you advice on what makes the most sense. But of course, if you want to keep your physical damage coverage, consider raising your deductible- that can save you money each year too.
- How can you save money on other types of vehicles?
If you have a motorcycle, boat and RV you might save money by having it covered by the same company that insures your car.
You may also want to consider separating your homeowner’s policy from your car insurance policy. Bundling your homeowner’s policy with your car insurance doesn’t always save you money. In some cases it may, but compare prices by separating the policies using an independent agent- the discount you may have gotten for keeping them together may be outweighed by the lower price another company might have for your car insurance.

Why we can help people save so much
People ask us all the time, what makes us different from the competition.
First off, not all of our customers are located in the Clarks Summit, Scranton, and Wilkes-barre area. Our agency covers all of Pennsylvania and we have tools to help you from your home. It’s almost as if you are sitting face to face with our agents in our office. In addition to the usual phone conversation our agents are equipped with Skype, live chat, and screen sharing software. No matter if you’re looking for home, auto, life, health or any other type of insurance.
“I got quoted with a Progressive agent down the street, how can you guys give me cheaper Progressive rates than them?”
This happens all of the time. We are a signature agent which means we have the ability to offer additional discounts that other agents can not.
People also say, “Your sign in the front says Progressive, isn’t that who you insure with?”
Yes and no. We are partnered with Progressive but we also have over 20 other companies as well. Such as Travelers, GMAC, Safeco, Encompass, Metlife, and so many more. This is our biggest advantage. Instead of just being locked into seeing prices for one company our agents can give you a quote with all of these companies at once. Not only can they see the prices of all of these companies for you, they can also see all of the discounts that you apply for. This system also saves you time — we do the shopping for you.

What to Do After an Auto Accident?
A car accident can be a difficult situation no matter how minor. The important thing to remember is that car accidents happen all the time, and your safety is the highest concern after an accident occurs. Worry about caring for yourself first, and then you can determine how to care for the car and sort out the situation with your insurance company. Since car accidents can often leave you disoriented and in shock, it’s important to prepare beforehand to know what to do after a car accident. The following steps should all be taken directly after an auto accident occurs:
1. Analyze the Damage to the Car and Personal Injuries
While remaining as calm as possible, analyze the vehicle for any new damages that occurred as a result of the auto accident. Major injuries will most likely manifest themselves right away, but you should always be sure to check for minor injuries on your person as well. These injuries might include bumps, scratches, bruises and mild pain in any area of the body. If it’s possible, try to document these damages and injuries with a cell phone camera, digital camera or any other recording device you may have on you.
2. File a Report
Call your local police station (or just dial 911 if you don’t have the number on hand) and file a report for the accident to ensure it is properly recorded. Limit the conversation to general details and avoid talking about fault or liability of any parties involved until you discuss the auto accident with your insurance agent first. Be sure to call your insurance agent right after you call the police to file your claim as quickly as possible.
3. Limit Your Discussion of the Auto Accident
An exciting event like an auto accident may be tempting to talk about with all your friends or post on Twitter, but the most practical thing to do after the accident is to only discuss the information with the police and your insurance agent. This ensures that nothing you say in a shocked state of mind will be used against you and possibly limit the amount of insurance you are qualified for. Bringing others into the situation not only exacerbates it, but this will also confuse you in terms of what really happened.
Suggested Photographs:
- All damage to your vehicle.
- Damage to other accident vehicle(s).
- Relationship to intersection or lane, if needed
- Street name(s) and address of accident location.
- Any situation that helps you describe the accident more clearly.

How to drive safe during the winter season – tips and info
Maintenance
1) Clean off your car (don’t forget the roof, lights, and hood.)
2) Check the following things periodically
- Ignition system
- Fuel system
- Belts
- Hoses
- Fluid levels
- Brakes
- Exhaust system
- Wiper blades
- Defroster
- Antifreeze
- Cooling system
- Battery
- Lights
- Tire tread and pressure
3) Keep your gas above half tank-
-Try and keep your gas at full tank to avoid gas line freezing
4) When checking your tires and treads
-Make sure there is 1/8 inch tire tread & that they’re properly inflated.
-A good idea is to get snow tired or chains for traction.
Be Prepared
1) Keep the following winter supplies-
- Jumper Cables
- Multiple Blankets
- Snow Shovel & scraper
- Flashlight with extra batteries
- Extra Clothing
- High Calorie/non-perishable food (ex: canned nuts, dried fruits, hard candy)
- First aid kit
- Sand or strips of carpet (for traction)
- Tow Rope
- Cell Phone
- A jack, lug wrench, and spare tire
2) Check conditions & weather information before going out
-If the roads are bad, decide if it’s really worth the risk of leaving.
-Only drive when absolutely necessary.
3) Tell someone where you’re going and when your expect to arrive.
4) Brakes – knowing the difference before you drive
-ABS (Automatic breaking system) – If you have this system you should hold the brakes with constant pressure and don’t pump them
-Standard Brakes – If your car isn’t equipped with ABS brakes then you should pump them instead of using constant pressure.
(You’ll find which type you have simply by looking in your driver’s manual.)
Driving safely
- You should always wear it, but make sure you put on a seat belt.
- Reduce your speed
- Speed limit signs are for dry pavement conditions
- Leave plenty of room for stopping
- Brake early, slowly, and smoothly (no sudden stops)
- Leave plenty of room between you and the car ahead of you (8-10 second distance)
- Think ahead while driving. (Slow down early) if you know there’s a big turn ahead
- Don’t use cruise control
- You need control when you lose traction.
1) If you rear wheels skid-
- Take your foot off the gas
- Steer where you want the front wheels to go
-Sliding right – steer right
-Sliding left – steer left - Either pump or apply constant pressure to your brakes (depending on which type you have)(See earlier in article)
2) If your front wheels skid-
- Take your foot off the gas & shift to neutral, don’t try to steer immediately
- As your wheels skid sideways the car will slow down & traction will return.
- After you gain some traction steer in the direction you want to go in.
- Then shift back into drive or release the clutch, and accelerate gently.
If you get stuck
- Don’t spin your wheels (they will dig deeper)
- Turn your wheels back and forth (to get snow out of your way)
- Accelerate very slowly & gently (ease your way out)
- Use a shovel to move snow away from your tires
- Use the sand or carpet strips to get traction
- Rock the car back and forth (check owners manual before trying this to see if damage would be done to your transmission.
If you become stranded
- Call 911
- Stay in your car and don’t leave unless necessary.
- Only leave if you know where you are
- Make yourself visible
-Light flares in front and in back of your car a safe distance away - If the exhaust isn’t blocked run the engine in 10 minute intervals for heat. (Watch your gas level though)
- Keep a window open slightly
-Snow and ice could seal your vehicle shut. - Eat hard candy. This will keep your mouth moist.
- Avoid overexertion (ex: from pushing your car)
If you’re in an accident
- See if anyone’s injured
- Call 911 if necessary
- Move your car off the road if possible
- Exchange:
- Name
- Address
- Drive license number
- Vehicle registration
- Insurance Information
